Uniforms

Our uniforms began with a green wool suit with a flowing cape which gave it a dramatic flair, and kept the Stewardesses warm on drafty aircraft and on the ground.

In those days, uniforms reflected the times with a military style in the 40’s & 50’s, to the Jackie Kennedy look in the 60’s.

Then in late 60’s, and into the 80’s, it was anything goes. Many changes reflected those colorful, carefree decades.

In the past few years, Flight Attendants have sported very conservative Navy Blue suits and dresses, sometimes known as the “Salvation Army” uniforms. Who doesn’t long for an orange mini dress with a white bucket hat and boots?

Air Museums across the country display and archived our uniforms.
